Supermarkets –No sense of Occasion.

early easter

While I am looking closely for new spring life, in such things as the first daffodils or new tree buds in my garden and surrounding countryside. The supermarkets are telling me Easter is coming, they have along-side of reduced Christmas chocolate snowmen and Christmas tree sweets, chocolate eggs and chocolate moulded bunnies and chicks.

Now I know humans need something to look forward to, but this length of forward thinking is ridiculous. The date of Easter is calculated in western cultures as the first Sunday following a full moon on or after the spring equinox – this year it falls on 20th April, that’s 14 weeks from now.

Now the supermarkets do have time between now and Easter for some big profits. There is St Valentine’s Day and of course here in Ireland St Patricks Day and I am sure there is some profit in flour, eggs and lemons for Pancake Day.

But things do not have to be huge for a sense of occasion. Tomorrow there is a full moon and before January is out we have another new moon and February and March will have their full and new moons to.  There is also 1st February traditional thought of as the first day of spring and the spring equinox 20th march, you can make any day an occasion with a little treat.
